Harper’s Bazaar defines Denise Hale as San Francisco’s “indefatigable social empress,” and she held court over our midsummer luncheon at home in Marin. It was a delightful gathering of friends, old and new, with a delicious menu of market-fresh magic by Mill Valley chef Jennifer Carvaly.
Our weekend houseguests, and dearest friends from Los Angeles, attorney Michael Rabkin and his art consultant husband Chip Tom were joined by Martin Chapman, curator of European decorative arts and sculpture at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the debonaire Dr. James Rogers, stylist extraordinaire, salon founder Alex Chases and banker Craig Card.
Martin Chapman’s triumphant reconstruction and the furnishing of the Salon Doré at the Palace of the Legion of Honor, Denise’s world travel, and the very busy lives of all filled the afternoon with lively talk and tales.
The guest of honor.
Myself, Denise and my husband Arthur.
Michael and Chip, up from LA.
Boys in Blazers: James, Alex, Craig and Martin.
Surrounded by guests who appreciate fine footwear as much as I do.
