The once renown Renaissance library is now home to the largest repository and reference library on Italian art. It is funded as a study center, in memory of an only son lost to war it is now open to scholars by appointment.
Although altered in some respects by later architects several times in its long history, San Giorgio Maggiore still remains one of the most beautiful and important Palladian structures in the Veneto. Its sublime, classic beauty has inspired architecture for 500 years.
