I am thrilled to be joining the board of Venetian Heritage. As anyone who follows this blog knows, Venice bewitched me a long time ago. Its hold on my imagination may be more powerful than ever, as prolonged stays in an isolated city over the past year have revealed new layers of romance and decorative glory amid the intimate calm.
I’ve been proud to help Venetian Heritage, an international non-profit organization of like-minded individuals, in several recent efforts to safeguard the rich cultural history of Venice and surrounding areas once encompassed by the Venetian Republic. The video here offers a glimpse of the astonishing restoration of Luca Giordano’s 17th-century The Deposition of Christ. This project, along with a restoration of L’Indovina, by Giovanni Battista Piazzetta, was commissioned with our friends Patti and David Schwartz.
I am so grateful to the board and staff of Venetian Heritage for their invitation. I anticipate more great collaborations ahead. My fervent hope is that future generations will come to revere Venice as I have. It’s a place of endless discovery with layers of splendour that should never be obscured by the passage of time.
